Disasters don’t impact just one organization or agency — they impact entire communities. That’s why Bradford and Union counties are coming together to launch a Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD) and Long-Term Recovery Group (LTRG). A COAD and LTRG help communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters by bringing together nonprofits, faith-based groups, businesses, emergency management, schools, healthcare providers, volunteers, and residents around a coordinated plan of action. Whether the challenge is a hurricane, severe storm, wildfire, public health emergency, or another community crisis, these coalitions help ensure that: * Resources are coordinated effectively * Communication is stronger * Duplication of services is reduced * Community gaps are identified * Long-term recovery support is available for impacted families This public kick-off event is an opportunity to: * Learn what a COAD and LTRG are * Understand how disaster coordination works locally * Hear from community leaders and emergency response partners * Share ideas and concerns during an open discussion * Explore opportunities to get involved Community resilience starts before disaster strikes. Everyone has a role to play. We encourage nonprofits, churches, civic groups, healthcare providers, schools, businesses, government agencies, volunteers, and residents from both counties to attend. Together, we can build a stronger, more prepared community.
