Free mental health first aid course for adults in specified Texas counties, offering 3-year certification

This course is offered FREE through a grant to anyone who lives, works, worships, goes to school or provides service or support to anyone in Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Leon, Madison, Robertson, and Washington counties. This course is for adults - you must be 18 years or older to attend. Registration open to 25 participants. If you have experienced a recent trauma or loss to suicide it is advisable to attend MHFA at a later date. Mental Health First Aid is an evidence-based course that teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use challenge or experiencing a crisis and connect them to resources that can help. It offers a 3-year certification. Here are the steps to receive your certification: 1. Pre-work: Pre-test and opinions quiz 2. Instructor Led Training (ILT): The class is from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. This time includes a couple short breaks and 30-minute lunch break. 3. Post Course Work: This includes a survey, final exam, and course evaluation. If you are unable to attend after enrolling in the course, you must notify us immediately to open up seats for waitlisted participants.
