Join us to learn how walking can become more than a way to get from one place to another: a practice for settling the mind, caring for the body, and bringing greater awareness into daily life. Who: Everyone is welcome, including: * meditators and non-meditators * people curious about mindfulness or Buddhism * people who feel they don’t have time to meditate * people who think "meditation is not for me" * people who sit too much and walk too little What: We’ll start by going over the basic principles of walking meditation. Then we’ll alternate between periods of silent walking and short breaks for sharing and discussion. Questions are welcome throughout, and you’ll have a chance to try different methods. Where: We’ll meet in Madison Square Park by the Chester Alan Arthur Monument, near the northeast corner of the park. If heavy rain is expected, we’ll notify registrants in advance and meet instead at our center, located at 122 W. 26th Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues. About the instructor Beth Adelman learned how to meditate almost 20 years ago on a retreat with Larry Rosenberg, founder of the Cambridge Insight Meditation Center. She has continued her study and practice of Chan Buddhism with Simon Child and Rebecca Li at Dharma Drum Retreat Center and in the Chan Dharma Community, where she volunteers. She is also active with Dharma Drum Meditation Center in New York City, where she leads a monthly Walking Meditation and regularly helps facilitate Tea, Chat & Meditation evenings.
