Reading to Resistance: March Session

A book club exploring themes of collective safety and liberation through Chanel Miller's memoir

Reading asks us to pay attention, both to ourselves and the world around us. This book club, which is co-hosted by A Better Force and the Asian Family Support Services of Austin, will be a space to reflect on how these teachings can point us to a path of collective safety and liberation. In our first session, we will be discussing Know My Name by Chanel Miller, a memoir that documents Miller's experiences of being a sexual assault survivor and how the system is stacked against survivors, even in clear cut cases. We encourage folks to get books from your local library, Libby, or local bookstores like Birdhouse Books. If you prefer having your own digital copy, you can check out Bookshop [https://bookshop.org/a/111671/9780735223714]. If you need support getting a copy of the book for any reason, please email jxia@afssaustin.org by Feb 10th and we will help you get a copy. Event is completely free. A very big thanks to Birdhouse Books for hosting us in their space.
