The City of Miami Department of Fire-Rescue invites you to meet and greet Dr. Juan C. Garcia, a distinguished cardiologist whose personal story and professional journey have come full circle in service to our firefighters. Dr. Garcia recently joined the Miami Firefighters Health & Wellness Center, where he plays a vital role in advancing early detection and prevention of cancer, heart disease, stress-related conditions, and other critical health concerns affecting first responders. While his appointment marks an important step forward for firefighter health, it is also deeply personal. Years ago, Dr. Garcia’s son, Miami Fire Lieutenant Rafael “Ralf” Garcia, tragically passed away at the age of 28 from a brain tumor. That loss became a driving force behind Dr. Garcia’s commitment to advocating for firefighter health and cancer prevention. After thoughtful reflection with his family, the decision to serve in this role was embraced as a way to honor Ralf’s legacy. With decades of experience, Dr. Garcia has cared for thousands of patients, performing complex cardiovascular diagnostics and treatments while earning a reputation for compassionate, thorough care. His career includes leadership roles such as Chief Medical Resident in the U.S. Army, Director of Cardiology and Coronary Care Units at Army medical centers, and Medical Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Aventura Hospital. Since 2008, he has served as President of Miami Cardiovascular Specialists, P.A., leading advancements in cardiac care across South Florida. This ceremony celebrates not only Dr. Garcia’s remarkable career, but also his unwavering dedication to protecting those who serve our community. Join us as we officially welcome Dr. Garcia and recognize a legacy rooted in service, resilience, and purpose.
