Viscount-endorsed artist, Walter Kemp 3 has garnered numerous awards and accolades including winner of a Jazz RoadArtist Touring Grant from SouthARTS, Performance Grants from the Foundation of Contemporary Arts (NYC), along withSpotify Playlist and disc from JAZZIZ Magazine (Fall 2024). As a bandleader, Chamber Code is a spontaneous, artistic sonic experience rooted in the layered principles of early code communication,born of the work of artist and inventor Samuel Morse. A bold and provocative embodiment of today's global anddomestic climate, the ensemble features Kemp (JAZZIZ Magazine print edition), along with spoken word Poet LaureateThomas Sayers Ellis (The Poetry Foundation), bassist Silvia Bolognesi (Italy), drummer Warren ‘Trae’ Crudup (NYC), and acclaimed visual artist Edreys Wajed’s code” music-themed, site-specific live projections. Black Whole is a contemporary cadre of dynamic musical artists including Kemp, on piano, Rhodes, and Viscount organ,GRAMMY award-winning improvisational violinist Scott Tixier, maverick woodwind master Brent Birckhead on alto sax,clarinet and flute, bass prodigy Rishon Odel and Allan Mednard, a NYC fixture on the percussion scene. The debut album’s latest single DeFacto offers fans and tour-goers alike an unforgettably immersive sound experience. It's nosurprise the track was selected to premiere the award-winning journalist Ta-Nehisi Coates’ literary debut at BABEL forThe Water Dancer. Black Whole (Live) can be heard worldwide, already top-ranking among Best Jazz Albums of the Year. Kemp credits his musical legacy to his father, a classical and gospel composer, who sparked Kemp's early interest inpiano. Seeing and hearing his father's compositions performed at Carnegie Hall, opened Kemp's eyes to a world of music. He soon began studying classical piano. After a brief interest in drums, he gravitated toward jazz, continuing to playgospel organ. Kemp enjoys widespread critical acclaim for his compelling works, inventively exploring traditional chordprogressions with unparalleled finesse. Recipient and winner of the South Arts Jazz Road Tours grant, he has collaboratedwith various musical legends, including the late Juini Booth and Rey Scott, of Sun-Ra’s Arkestra, as well as living legendslike Bobby Militello, (Dave Brubeck), and Sabu Adeyola (Ahmad Jamal). As a highly-sought professional in theprogressive music scene, Walter has served as Artistic Director for the Point9mile Collaborative, a partnership with Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center, Artistic Director of the CMC International Jazz Festival and Producer of the AKG Art Museum Art of Jazz series.
