From June - August the top 20 scoring poets have been invited to compete in a competition which will award $2100 to the winners as well as the title Write About Now Individual Poetry Slam Champion as well as the Houston Individual Poetry Slam Champion. On July 14th, we will host 10 of the top poets in Houston compete for 4 spots in finals happening on August 11th. The poets competing include: LJ Hamilton, UC Jae, Chief Ikenna, Lady 380, Ken Jones, Tella, Cintel Glow, Rarity, Jade Boudreaux, Red Lion A poetry slam is a fun, energy-filled and competitive poetry event where the best poets perform their work and are judged by random members of the audience. Typically, the host or another organizer selects the judges, who are instructed to give numerical scores (on a zero to 10 scale) based on the poets' content and performance. The high score and the low score are dropped and the rest are added to give the poet their score for that round. All poets will perform in the second round in reverse order from the first. The scores will be added from the first and the second round and the second round. The top 4 scoring poets from the competition wil advance to finals on August 11th.
